It is our joy to welcome you to the Web Site for House of Prayer Lutheran Church. House of Prayer is celebrating nearly 50 years of ministry here in Escondido. As the only congregation in town affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), we believe we have a very strong witness to offer our community and beyond. We are a multi-cultural congregation with ministries touching almost every area of life.
House of prayer was established in 1959 and during those many years of ministry she has seen herself as being fully involved in the ecumenical outreach within the community. We participate in the Escondido Clergy Association, an ecumenical group offering ministries and services to the community, as well as the Harvest Conference, an affiliation of other ELCA congregations. We see ourselves as fully partnered with the whole Church throughout the world.
We make every effort to welcome all those who worship and commune with us. We have received many acknowledgements of our warm and friendly atmosphere. It is our joy to also welcome our winter visitors who return each year as well as many who come each year to spend time at the Lawrence Welk Resort located just up the road from us.
It has been my privilege to serve this congregation for nearly 18 years now. I have come to love my friends and fellow members here. This is one of the most loving and caring congregations I have ever known. Each year our Quilters make about 120 quilts that are distributed around the world through Lutheran World Relief. We regularly collect food and serve meals at the local community food bank, Interfaith Community Services. In addition we offer programs for all ages so that they might know Jesus Christ as Lord.
We invite you to come and worship with us. Our services are at 9:00 and 10:45 A.M. with Holy Communion offered at every service. Sunday School for all ages runs from 10:30 until 11:30 A.M. Please come and worship with us.
May God’s blessings be with you.
In Christ,
Pastor Paul H. Black
